FAQ

What is the difference between probate and Letter of Administration?

Probate applies when there is a valid Will and the executor named in it applies. Letter of Administration apply when there is no Will, and the estate is shared under the Intestate Succession Act.

Does every estate need a Grant of Probate or Letter of Administration?

No. An estate of S$50,000 or less may be administered by the Public Trustee's Office if it qualifies. Nominated CPF savings, nominated insurance and a jointly held home with no outstanding mortgage pass without a grant.
