When should I update my Will in Singapore?
After marriage, the birth or adoption of a child, buying or selling property, or the death of an executor, guardian or beneficiary. Review it when your family or assets change.
Does marriage revoke a Will in Singapore?
Yes. Under section 13 of the Wills Act, marriage revokes an earlier Will, unless the Will was expressed to be made in contemplation of that marriage.
Codicil vs new Will: which should I use?
A codicil amends part of an existing Will and must be signed and witnessed like a Will. For more than a small change, a new Will is clearer for your executor.
How do I revoke my old Will?
By a new Will or codicil, by a signed and witnessed written revocation, by destroying it with the intention to revoke, or by marriage. A new Will usually states that it revokes earlier ones.
Does a Will review cover my CPF nomination?
Yes. Your CPF savings follow your CPF nomination, not your Will, and marriage revokes a CPF nomination. We check both.
